HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM

Our college access work begins in the ninth grade when dropout rates are at their highest, and takes our students through high school and often college and beyond – providing over ten years of support. (see also Post-Secondary Program)

We partner with seven underperforming high schools in Los Angeles, working in communities of 300-500 students in the following Los Angeles high schools: Amino Pat Brown, Crenshaw, Gertz-Ressler, Hamilton, Manual Arts and New Designs. We also offer limited services in Locke, Fremont and Los Angeles high schools.

In classrooms weekly, our trained staff use an innovative curriculum targeting five key areas of youth development. We also assess students twice a year to identify areas needing additional attention.

Mentoring
Some students are matched with a caring mentor who provides critical guidance and encouragement. The Fulfillment Fund’s mentoring services have been recognized as among the best in California. Learn more about mentoring and how you can become a mentor.

One-to-One Advising
Beginning in the tenth grade, Fulfillment Fund counselors meet with students, and if possible, with a parent and/or mentor to explore the student's educational options and prepare a personalized course and activities plan and a list of appropriate colleges and universities.

Workshops and Field Trips
All students are invited to attend Fulfillment Fund events such as:

Destination: College - A day of informative seminars and a unique college fair.

Princeton Review Grammar Smart and SAT Preparation.

Application and essay workshops and drop-in application counseling.

Transitions to College - Workshops that help students and parents prepare for college.

College site visits - These local and out-of-state trips occur at least once a semester and provide students with the opportunity to visit college campuses, speak with faculty, staff and students, sit in on classes and stay overnight in the residence halls.

“I have gained so much knowledge from the education I have received and I owe it all to you. Without your help and guidance, I would not be at the place where I am now. I am lucky to have found people who care and I know that you will do the same for many others out there like me. Thank you for believing in me.”
