Fulfillment Fund Scholars: In Their Own Words

During the 2010-2011 academic year, the Fulfillment Fund was able to provide more than $339,000 in scholarships to more than 260 students. In 2011, the Fulfillment Fund awarded 64 additional scholarships to high school graduates entering two-year and four-year schools.

Meet a few of the college students who have benefited from Fulfillment Fund scholarships.

"Throughout my years of high school, the Fulfillment Fund has supported me with my endeavors, and has opened doors to many opportunities. Now that I am attending UC Berkeley, I just wanted to say thank you to the Fulfillment Fund for giving me that opportunity to attend the Northern California college trip in eleventh grade. UC Berkeley was one of the schools on the college trip and when I first stepped on the campus, I fell deeply in love. There was something about Berkeley that made me realize that this was my school and I had to apply. Maira "It is finally here, my last year at Cal State Long Beach. This has been possible thanks to the support of my family, my Fulfillment Fund mentor, my friends, and of course the Fulfillment Fund staff. I do not think I could ever say thank you enough times for the financial help I have received from the Fund. Over the last four years of my college life this scholarship has helped me pay for my tuition and school supplies. I cannot believe in a few months I will be a college graduate. I am thrilled and happy that I will have accomplished something that no one in my family has accomplished."

For more than 34 years, the Fulfillment Fund has been dedicated to providing first-generation, low-income students in Los Angeles with the support necessary to graduate from high school, earn a college degree and become productive and successful members of society. Through classroom instruction, college counseling, mentoring and scholarships, the Fulfillment Fund transforms the lives of students. In 2011, Fulfillment Fund students graduated high school at a rate of 91 percent, and of those, 93 percent went on to college.
